"Onnnakeizu" ("A Woman's Family Tree") is an acclaimed new kabuki play by Kyoka Izumi. The play will be presented by Shinpa (Neo Kabuki Troupe) as special performance to mark its 120th anniversary.
Kuriko Namino, daughter of Kanzaburo Nakamura the 17th and sister of the Present Kanzaburo the 18th, will demonstrate her Kabuki family heritage in Otsuta. Otsuta, a former geisha girl, leaves her beloved husband Chikara wishing his success in academic society.
Nizaemon Kataoka, a Kabuki actor on loan to Shinpa, will play Chikara, who is forced to leave his lovely wife by order of his mentor/professor. Stunning scenery and exquisite shamisen music will take the audience back to the good old days of Meiji Era Japan. The performance is a must for theater-goers who love kabuki and the Azuma Odori.
