Language:In English & Russian with English subtitles.
Description:To All Members.
English narration by Susan Sarandon.
Including interviews with Garry Kasparov, Boris Berzovsky and Anna Politkovskaya herself.
The political criticisms made by well-known Russian journalist and human rights activist Anna Politkovskaya were not particularly appreciated by the leaders of
her country. Her fiery attacks on injustice and her objections to the war in Chechnya may have precipitated her 2006 murder, just as she arrived home in Moscow. The perpetrators of this crime were never discovered.
The documentary details Anna's work in Chechnya and her determination to put an
end to the conflict. It also includes scenes and intimate conversations of Anna
with her children. Swiss director Bergkraut met Politkovskaya in 2003 while making his award-winning film "Coca: The Dove from Chechnya."
"Letter to Anna" received The Václav Havel Award at the One World Human Rights Documentary Film Festival in Prague in March.
"Letter to Anna" is part of the official program of the UNHCR Refugee Film Festival in Tokyo, which starts on June 20. Festival Director Kirill Konin will be presented to provide an overview of the festival and mention the reason for the selection of this film.
