Tarantula Sound began in 2005 when Tara Solheim and Mac Okuyama met in Tokyo, Japan. They soon began performing together, first as a duo and later adding more members.

Their music is an eclectic mix of Mac’s blues influences and Tara’s jazz and country roots. Raised in the Canadian prairies, Tara studied music from a young age and integrates her original poetry into the music. An experienced guitar player and bassist, Mac also spent some years in Canada playing with many Canadian blues musicians. Masayuki Shiraishi and Sugiyama Shinichi joined Tarantula Sound in 2007 adding a new driving energy to the band; Sugi himself, being a proud owner of a real pet tarantula.

In February 2008, Tarantula Sound released their debut CD, “blue pop rock”.
