Description:Instigated after anti-government riots and protests in Lhasa last March, a Chinese Government ban on visits by foreigners to Tibet was lifted on Wednesday. In a timely event, Kesang Yangkyi Takla, the Minister of Information & International Relations of the Central Tibetan Administration, will speak at an FCCJ luncheon on July 1 as Tibetans welcome foreign tourists back to the "roof of the world."
Kesang Yangkyi Takla, more commonly known as the “foreign minister in exile,” is visiting Japan to speak at a forum organized by the Save Tibet Network and will update the press at the FCCJ on the struggle for freedom in the once-independent kingdom.
Born in 1944 in Tibet, Takla has worked in various departments of the exiled Tibetan government, including representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in London (1989-1997) and Taiwan (1997-1999), as Secretary of the Department of Information and International Relations (2000-01); and again in London (2002-07) where she was the representative to Northern Europe.
