Description:

For more than a year, the members of Keizai-Doyukai, the Japan Association of Corporate Executives, have engaged in an intensive search for a new style of management - an amalgamation of Japanese and western styles. Their answer has been released in a recent report titled "Creation of a new way of Japanese management".

Yasuchika Hasegawa led the study group of influential corporate executives who shared keen interest in this contentious subject. He will come and discuss the report at a FCCJ Professional Luncheon on July 23.

Hasegawa is a Doyukai Vice Chairman and the president of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company.

"No corporations will grow and develop if they become complacent in management as a single extension of past success. The time has come to pursue a new way of Japanese management - fusing together the respective good points of domestic and foreign corporate management", says Hasegawa.

Hasegawa is a political science graduate of Waseda University. He joined Takeda in 1970, and his long career has spanned stints abroad including three years in Germany and ten years in the United States. He became the president of Japan's largest and most powerful pharmaceutical corporation in 2003.

Takeda is specifically marked by its recent active overseas drive led by Hasegawa. It includes a gigantic M&A of an American based pharmaceuticals firm - a deal worth some $8.1 billion. Takeda's corporate history stretches back to the mid-18th century. The company is also well known for a remarkably successful adoption of a more open and liberal corporate culture under the initiative of Kunio Takeda, current chairman and a member of the founding family.
