FCCJ Summer Wine Tasting

Time: 2008 Jul 29 19:40 - 21:00
Summary:

The Wines of Central Europe -- Germany, Austria and Hungary
Monday, July 28 & Tuesday, July 29 2008 6:00 p.m. & 7:40 p.m.

Description:

From crackling dry Austrian whites to the velvety reds of southern Hungary, the wines of Central Europe offer a broad range of flavors rarely available in large quantities outside their countries of origin.

Feel free to refresh yourself with the sparkling Villa Wolf Sekt Brut from Germany, a bargain at \1,800 or try a classic, bone-dry Frtisch Gruener Veltliner Steinberg from Austria, highly affordable at \1,700. For something truly unusual, have a sip of a spicy Furmint from Tokaj (reminiscent of the whites of southeast France), or try some of the world-famous dessert wines from the same region of northeast Hungary.

Reds are also well represented with three Spaetburgunders from Germany, two Zweigelts and a Blaufrankisch from Austria and three reds from the southern Hungarian village of Villany, including the much praised Kopar by prize winning vintner Attila Gere.

The club is grateful for the cooperation of four wine dealers, including Bunshodo and Herrenberger Hof (Germany), Sankyu Shokai (Hungary) and Iida (Austria) for making available their wines at concessionary prices.

All wine purchases are by the case; please inquire about mixed cases when placing orders. Payment should be by cash or credit card (MasterCard & Visa). The usual spread of bread and cheeses will also be laid out, with cheese purchases available for those interested.

Please note that our format of two tastings per evening will be observed, with the first session starting at 6:00 p.m. and ending at 7:20 p.m., and the second session starting at 7:40 p.m. and ending at 9 p.m. The tastings will take place on the evenings of July 28 and July 29, 2008.

Tickets will be 1,995 yen (including tax) each.
