Summary:

Professional Luncheon,
Edward A. Rice,
Commander, U.S. Forces Japan

Language:

The speech and Q & A will be in English.

Description:

"USS George Washington", the first nuclear-powered U.S. aircraft carrier with a home port outside the United States, arrived at Yokosuka on September 25. While the U.S. has said the deployment of the ship demonstrates the U.S. commitment to its alliance with Japan, the Nimitz-class carrier was also met by groups of Japanese protesters.

With both Japan and the United States facing changes in their political scene, what could this mean for the two countries' security alliance looking forward?

As the election looms, Lieutenant General Edward A. Rice Jr., who has been the top American military officer in Japan since February 2008, will address the Club on these topics and more.

Sandwich Plate: Corned beef on campagne with lettuce, tomato and pickles.
Hot Plate: Fillet of sea bream with mixed mushroom gratin, green salad & bread.
