Regardless of his roles, hero or villain, Paul Newman practically had always the moviegoers siding with him. In this Oscar winning film, Eddie Felson (Newman) is an expert but very arrogant and self-destructive pool player. He challenges
"Minnesota Fats," an unbeaten master, for his world title and loses. This defeat leads Eddie to join a ruthless manager to learn the ropes of the game. However, he realizes, too late, that reaching the top will cost him the loss of his girlfriend, soul, esteem and confidence.
